Born on October 31, 2009, Nelina was your typical 4-year-old girl. She loved the outdoors, swimming, jumping in puddles and running through the sprinkler on a hot summer day. All that changed on July 25, 2014 when she was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma).
Her journey was one of hope and now, her legacy.
We are pleased to announce our 2019 small grant recipient is Dr. James Rutka and his current research project - A safety and feasibility study to evaluate Blood-Brain Barrier(BBB) Disruption Using Transcranial MRI-Guided Focused Ultrasound with Intravenous Ultrasound Contrast Agents and Chemotherapy in the patients with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomas.
